Sustainable Trail Development and It's Impact

28 March 2009  |
Dafydd Davies speaks at DO Lectures about Sustainable Trail Development and it's Impact. The DO Lecture event was launched in Wales last September and featured 21 speakers. The idea is that people who Do things can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things too. Dafydd pioneered the development of Britain's first purpose built mountain bike trails at Coed y Brenin and later the worlds first publicly funded strategic mountain bike trail development in Wales by developing trails at five forests throughout the country. Watch his Lecture about the development of mountain bike trails in Wales. How, why and where they were developed, the results and the lessons learned.
Dafydd Davies Profile: Brought up in the vale of Ffestiniog, Dafydd has been involved in the outdoors (climbing, biking, surfing, fell running) from an early age and for many years worked as an outdoor instructor, before working for the Forestry Commission. Whilst with the Forestry Commission he pioneered the development of Britain's first purpose built mountain bike trails at Coed y Brenin and later the worlds first publicly funded strategic mountain bike trail development in Wales by developing trails at five forests throughout the country. He now works as an independent consultant throughout the world, developing all sorts of trails in all sorts of places. His work is underpinned by an ethos of sustainability and minimising the impact of recreation on the countryside, whilst still making it accessible for people at many different levels. He is passionate about the outdoors and connecting people to landscape, places and the environment in sustainable ways. www.dolectures.co.uk
